  • I 💙 ordering from @thewallyshop because the people are so nice and my groceries look so cute. I wanted to get some chocolate chips but I wasn't sure if the chocolate chips were #vegan but they left me a great note to confirm that I can bake for all my vegan friends with no worries!
With Wally, I can get all my #ZeroWaste groceries delivered, including tricky stuff like that olive oil. If you are interested, ask me any questions you have and check out this discount code for yourself: thewallyshop.co/sign up?ref=LNG6E2P I 💙 ordering from @thewallyshop because the people are so nice and my groceries look so cute. • Dandelion vegan ‘honey’ 🍯✨🌼 I followed @plantepusherne ‘s recipe except that I used more dandelion flowers and skipped the apples (I didn’t want to use two apples in case I couldn’t get the honey right!). Well, I am super pleased with the result 💛 I have these two pots plus another medium one. It actually tastes like honey and has a lovely floral undertone to it 🌼 It has quite a lot of sugar so I thought it might taste just like a syrup but it was really nice on my porridge this morning 🌞 Most (as much as 75%) of the commercial honey that it’s sold is heavily blended with cheap rice syrup and we don’t know, in fact only a very little proportion of honey is produced globally and it’s nowhere near meeting the demand for it (watch the ‘rotten’ episode on honey on Netflix for facts - highly recommended) so I guessed it would be a good idea to buy my own sugar and use those little flowers that are usually seen as no more than weeds. It took me ages to make just because I couldn’t stop myself from checking for the right consistency every 10min #zeropatience 🙊 I’m definitely going to make another batch, probably next year as this will sort me out for a while! I used brown sugar and that may be the reason it came out quite dark but that’s ok. Check my stories if you would like to see the process x 🌿 Dandelion vegan ‘honey’ 🍯✨🌼 I followed @plantepusherne ‘s recipe except that I used more dandelion flowers and skipped the apples (I didn’t want to use two apples in case I couldn’t get the honey right!). • These mf’ers bring me (odd) joy! WAX WRAPS! So, @lisabyrdcollection hipped me to these when I was in Thailand. I purchased some from her a few weeks ago...and cannot stop using them. ...made my aunts some for Easter😘 and decided to make some sets to sell at the shop! 2 snack bags + 1 12x12in = $14. These are great on the go...park play dates, thrifting, hiking...lunches...etc. just rinse and reuse ♻️! Let us know what you use them for! #zerowaste #sustainability #mesahome These mf’ers bring me (odd) joy! WAX WRAPS! So, @lisabyrdcollection hipped me to these when I was in Thailand. • As you can probably tell from the look on my face, I was thrilled to meet Bea Johnson last week of @zerowastehome, whom @cnn refers to as “The mother of the zero waste lifestyle movement.” We each gave a talk during an Earth Day event here in the Bay Area.
.
Bea was amazing! She looked fantastique in her chic black outfit—all of it secondhand, down to her black strappy heels for which she paid only ten dollars. “I’ll sell them to you for twenty,” she told the audience in her gorgeous French accent. (She cracked jokes right and left and had me LOLing in my seat.)
.
During her presentation, Bea showed us slides of her family—herself, her husband, their two sons and their dog—in their beautiful, minimalist, light-filled home, not a superfluous object in sight. Maybe they hide all the extra stuff where no one can see it, you argue. Well, we saw the insides of the cupboards and closets too! Zero clutter. And OMG the garage—so clean and tidy with only the family’s bikes hanging from the ceiling and nothing else cluttering the space. .
Bea talked about the reaction her family’s lifestyle drew when the major news outlets first featured their story. People ridiculed them, saying one family’s alternative lifestyle wouldn’t change anything. Well, were those critics wrong! Through her blog and her book of the same name, Zero Waste Home (read them if you haven’t), talks (attend one if she comes to your city) and social media (follow her if you aren’t), Bea has inspired hundreds of thousands of people to not only try this lifestyle, but to open up bulk stores and bulk pop-up shops, to design reusable gear, to translate her book, to write blogs, to educate others... And the ripples keep spreading out, making zero waste the hottest thing since sliced sourdough. .
People often ask me if I think the zero-waste or low-waste movement will peter out. I predict it will not and for the sake of our planet, it cannot. Consuming fewer resources is not a trendy lifestyle. It’s a sane one.
