• Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right. #WorldWaterDay “Leaving no one behind.” Right to left: Water for all older people, Water for all refugees, Water for all rural people.

The theme for World Water Day 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind,’ which is the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.

Water is an essential building block of life. It is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development.

Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 2030. By definition, this means leaving no one behind.

Today, billions of people are still living without safe water, which means ‘safely managed drinking water service’: water that is accessible on the premises, available when needed, and free from contamination. Their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive.

Marginalized groups – women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others – are often overlooked, and sometimes face discrimination, as they try to access and manage the safe water they need.

In 2010, UN recognized “the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of life & all human rights.” The human right to water entitles everyone, without discrimination, to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic use; which includes water for drinking, personal sanitation, washing of clothes, food preparation, & personal & household hygiene.

People are left behind without safe water for many different reasons.
Sex, gender
Race, ethnicity, religion, birth, caste, language, nationality
Disability, age and health status
Property, tenure, residence, economic & social status

To ‘leave no one behind’, we must focus our efforts towards including people who have been marginalized or ignored.
Regulatory & legal frameworks must recognise the right to water for all people Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right. #worldwaterday “Leaving no one behind.” Right to left: Water for all older people, Water for all refugees, Water for all rural people. • I don’t know about you, but I’ve always lived somewhere where I can either turn on the tap and access safe drinking water, or find a source nearby.
————————————
I’ve never had to trek kilometres a day to collect dirty water from puddles and unsafe water sources. And I’ve never had to drink, cook with or even wash with anything of the sort.
————————————
Today is #WorldWaterDay and I’m reflecting on my own (fortunate) experiences with water, and also thinking of those who aren’t so lucky.
————————————
The fact is 783 million people around the world still today do not have access to clean and safe water. This leads to inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene, which are the leading causes of cholera and a variety of infectious and deadly diseases.
————————————
In developing countries the lack of safe drinking water is known to have a far greater impact on girls and women. According to @unicef, women and girls are responsible for water collection in 7 out of 10 households in 45 developing countries.
————————————
It’s also know half of the developing world's primary schools don't have access to water and sanitation facilities. Without toilets, girls often drop out at puberty (watch @periodendofsentence for more on this).
————————————
So... when you turn on the tap this morning, jump in the shower and take a sip of water, have a think to yourself about how fortunate you are. Or better still, spend a few minutes today researching the many ways you can be just a small part of the greater solution. Thanks for reading #WaterDay #WaterForAll #WaterIsLife 📸 @sotheycan I don’t know about you, but I’ve always lived somewhere where I can either turn on the tap and access safe drinking water, or find a source nearby. ———————————— I’ve never had to trek kilometres a day to collect dirty water from puddles and unsafe water sources. 22 марта «Всемирный день водных ресурсов»
Интересные факты о воде • наиболее прозрачная и чистая вода в Финляндии;
• лёд можно скорее произвести из горячей воды;
• с водой передаётся около 80-85% болезней на планете;
• состояний воды больше трёх – учёные выделили 5 разных форм воды в жидком состоянии и 14 в замёрзшем;
• вода способствует уменьшению риска сердечных заболеваний, в том числе сердечного приступа. По результатам исследований врачей, для этого надо всего лишь выпивать в день 5-6 стаканов воды;
• за свою жизнь человек выпивает около 35-40 тонн воды; • вода может гореть, в Азербайджане находится источник с водой, которая содержит метан. При приближении к ней горящей спички, она загорается;

#ЖкПарусаЯлта призывает жителей Крыма и всей нашей планеты экономить воду, беречь наши водные ресурсы! 💦

In Tanzania only 50% of Tanzania's population have access to an improved source of safe water. Under this circumstance people particularly women and girls spend a significant amount of time traveling some distance to collect water. ( source: water.org )

  • Tomorrow is the day that we encourage everyone to WEAR BLUE for #WorldWaterDay! 🌊
•
Why is water important to our Curator, Aaron? 🌊
•
"Water is central to everything I do. Sometimes I can ride the waves and other times I weather the storm. Sometimes it is clean, other times a little muddy. But it always moves forward and is ever changing. It is involved in every part of my day, from caring for aquatic life to the recreation of sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing and relaxing on a secluded beach." 🌊

But it is still important to remember that not everyone has access to safe water like we do, in fact billions of people are still living without it. This year's World Water Day theme is 'leave no one behind' and to ensure no one does get left behind, check out the @unitednations website for more info and find out how you can help someone in need today 🙏💧💙 Today is World Water Day and we're so grateful that we live in a country that gives us access to clean safe water every single day.
