  • When we went to meet Nathi, I could see him standing just inside the doorway, anxious & excited to see us. Nathi is being raised by his grandparents & clearly has a large group of people who love & support him in his dream. He’s a soft-spoken boy with impeccable manners, a friendly smile & gives a perfect high five; but when he ran to get his ballet shoes his smile could not have been any wider…he lives to dance. Nathi did a demonstration on his front porch & what you can’t see in the #documinute are the people in the street watching Nathi dance, standing directly behind the crew, transfixed because when Nathi dances, people watch. He is captivating, talented, passionate, & he is only 12 yrs old. I asked Nathi where he would like to dance one day: @sydneyoperahouse …& I’ve been invited to do a follow-up Documinute when he gets there. To support Nathi: link in bio.

At the end of last year, we interviewed @docdreyer, a ballet dancer living the dream he had when he was a child. A few weeks later I received an email from Bertus about a young orphan with an exceptional talent. The boy’s name is Nathi and his ballet skills won him a spot at the Elite College of Excellence in Johannesburg. Bertus reached out to help the boy go to dance school & have the opportunity to live his dream, just as Bertus wished he had had as a child.
The @elitecollegeofexcellence has already taken Nathi on, he started school last week - as a nod to his potential, they are teaching him for free while the funds are raised for his school fees. They’ve also covered all his books & uniform costs…it’s now just his academic/dance tuition remaining.
@angelnetworksa is a global network of people pooling resources/contacts to give a ‘hand-up’ & they’ve created a crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds for Nathi to stay at dance school. After meeting Nathi I can personally attest to his talent, he just needs the opportunity. If just 899 more people give R100 each, Nathi can continue to study ballet. Documinute kicked off the campaign through a contribution from funds donated to us.
