  • Day 20 - The photo has little to do with this caption (ok maybe just a lil’ bit!). The first day of @naturalwalking 21 Day Challenge. The challenge is about doing natural walking practice for at least 60 minutes every day for the next 3 weeks. It’s actually harder than it looks. On this day, I went to a wedding I came home around 9PM and still have 30 minutes of walking to do.. I just wanted to go to bed straight away, so I told myself that after wearing those painful (but oh, so pretty!) high heels, it’ll be really good for my feet & body to reset. So, I did it, but it wasn’t easy to motivate myself to do it.

That’s the thing about these good habits that we are trying to build. Although I know I will feel great after doing it but somehow it’s so hard to do it. Many of you probably would like to do more exercise, eat healthier, read more, write more, etc. And somehow, it’s difficult to build a new habit. I have been reading and experimenting a lot about habit building or routine building or life design for a few years now, and trust me, I still fell off the bandwagon too. But that’s okay. Life does happen and sometimes you can go through a perfect streak for months or years, then somehow you fell off the wagon and can’t seem to go back on, or you’ve just been constantly trying to build a good habit and it never sticks.

So, a few things I’ve learned:
1. Don’t worry and relax. Try to resist all temptations to YELL at yourself or be mean to yourself. It’s okay. We’re not here to do things perfectly. So, be kind to yourself, you only have one self after all :)
2. Try to be conscious of what you’re saying to yourself. If you always label/identify yourself as “not good with exercise” or “I’m a light sleeper” or “I love junk food too much” or “I’m not a writer/athlete/healthy person” then it’ll be very difficult for you to build habits that are opposite to your self-identified labels.
3. Habit is actually not about finding the motivation to do it. Read “Atomic Habits” by @james_clear for details! 🙌🏼
