  • Some #vegan jamacian jerk beef tips, thyme baked potatoes and green beans.
I've seen a lot of controversy in the vegan community lately with the reveal that some popular vegans actually had started consuming animal products, citing health problems.
Veganism isn't perfect. There are products we consume that may not be animal products but DO harm the environment, like palm oil and agave has been up in dicsussion recently. So much is packaged in plastic. Quinoa is often exported from countries where the population can't even afford to eat their own food. Agricultural workers are all too often marginalized people taken advantage of by big companies and have little to no worker protection. Many people don't have access to farmers markets, affordable ways to make the transition, or the ability to DIY that would help cut down on the need for plastic, prepackaged things or bad ingredients .We aren't perfect either. We have a lot of racism, classism and abelism in the community. There are those of us, like me, who like to live as plant based as possible but DO have medical issues that necessitate eating animal products every so often (mostly kefir and Greek yogurt). I need to keep my gut Flora poppin and immune system up after a long #eatingdisorder battle and complications from #POTS that affect my digestive system. And if I start restricting my diet TOO much, I am at risk for relapse. Lying isn't cool, but as long as all of us are making an effort for a more sustainable life, that still goes a long way for the environment, workers and animals. I'd like to see less picking apart and judgement, and more focus on helping each other out.
