  • This picture is taken from an expo for all racing teams in @vellore_vit conducted by @sae_vit in 2019. And there is a story why this picture is important in my life and maybe you can get inspired.

It was in my first year that I was so crazy to join in @pravega_racing which is a top ranked #formulastudent racing team and preparation was going on for its upcoming recruitment. One day me and my close friend @aashilrv was walking near the foodys. I noticed a similar expo for racing teams were going on. I jumped into that expo expecting to see Praveg's car. But I couldn't see it. At that moment, I told Aashil that either I will join Pravega Racing or next year I will make a racing bike and it will stand here pointing to a spot in Foodys.

Soon after, I have joined Pravega racing and later I formed a @motostudent_official team @rev_mechanics and built the first ever MotoGP style racing bike prototype made by any Indian student team and touch the tarmac of a MotoGP racing track at @motorlandaragon in Spain in 2018. And this picture is taken exactly at that spot which I have pointed in my first year. "Keep your vision high and never give up because only you know what is your true potential"

Dr Aniruddha Chatterjee, a VIT alumnus, is currently a Senior Research Fellow and Rutherford Discovery Fellow at the University of Otago, Pathology department. He has been involved in a project of discovering oral cancer biomarkers which could eventually save thousands of lives. He & his research team from Otago and the Indian Statistical Institute, in Kolkata, have discovered epigenetic markers that are different in oral cancer tissues compared with the adjacent healthy tissues in patients. Epigenetics- non-genetic influences on gene expression- is a powerful mechanism capable of altering gene expression in cancer cells without changes to the DNA sequence, and can cause tumour progression. He states that this study is one of the first to identify epigenetic markers in oral cancer, using cutting-edge approaches. For the study, published in the journal Epigenomics, the team recruited 16 oral cancer patients in India, taking samples of both tumour and normal adjacent tissue.Using the samples, they discovered regions with altered epigenetic profiles in tumour cells compared with normal cells, and found some were significantly associated with poor prognosis of patients. The findings could help save thousands of lives by identifying cancer cells early. He did his M.Sc in Biotechnology (Batch of 2008) from VIT.

“I joined VIT in the year of 2015, for M.Sc. Biotechnology (5 Year Integrated Course). I wanted to pursue a career in scientific research. VIT University has given wings to my feathers & help me propel to greater heights by giving me the holistic exposure that a young guy like me aspires to achieve! Early on in my 2nd year I was part of the organising team of Biosummit 2016 which is the annual science-cum-industry expedition of our school SBST. This gave me a platform to take a lead and responsibility towards conducting a proper event. I would also like to thank my seniors for always guiding me and being a friend rather than the clichéd senior stereotype. The curriculum of 5 years Integrated Biotech has helped me acquire a vast range of life science and biology subjects which helped me diversify but also gain my preferred choice of career research in cancer research which I would now be pursuing as master’s thesis project in Medical University of Vienna. Last but not the least I would like to thank professor & former dean of SBST - Dr. K.M.Gothandam for always guiding me & giving me the opportunity to pursue my research interest in his lab. 4 years indeed flew past by me in the blink of an eye and VIT vellore will always hold a special place in my heart.”

I, an alumnus of VIT, cleared UPSC Civil Service Examinations-2018. My success was built upon the edifice of failures. I was not able to go beyond the Preliminary level in my first four attempts. I gave my first attempt in 2013, as a final year UG student, and missed the cut-off by finest of the margin. The saga of ‘too close yet too far’ continued in all my next 3 attempts (2014, 2016 and 2017). When destiny gave me a chance in 2018, I grabbed it so hard that it would not slip out of my hands.
I dedicate this success to my Parents, Teachers, Friends and my Alma Mater. VIT gave wings to my aspirations. Apart from providing a platform to have excellent education, VIT has shaped me as an individual, keeping up its motto of “A place to learn, a chance to grow”. Every single experience in the university has chiseled me. Among all the things that inspired me in VIT, the yearning for perfection, had greater impact and infected me.

An alumnus of VIT, I am currently working as Sales Manager at Thermax, a company which is highly recognized as one of the top & prestigious energy & environment companies in India. When I moved into VIT, I was completely wonderstruck to see the world class infrastructure, the people and the state of the art facilities and it heightened my belief & confidence for the fact that with all hard & smart work, there could be a lot of take aways from VIT. Apparently it was really delighting for me to find a home away from home.

VIT chemical engineering department is a blend of highly qualified teachers and a platform which offers tremendous exposure & growth for the students. The whole gamut of opportunities adds a different dimension to the department and this helps the students to strengthen their respective pedestals from all aspects. Qualifying in the selection process for a core company named VA Tech Wabag, which happens to be one of the top 3 companies in water & waste treatment was the bestest thing that could have happened to me at VIT. And for that matter, being able to shape up my career in the core sector makes me highly satisfied & elated now & always. I take this opportunity to thank my alma mater for everything and would like to express my sincerest gratitude and reverence to all the faculty members of VIT. - Mr. Shameek Deb, B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Class of 2007.
