High Spirits and Low Clouds, Mojave National Preserve, California
This was our view as we made dinner and set up camp amongst the Joshua trees, creosote bushes and cholla cacti. After a day of hiking an amazing variety of terrain, exploring down muddy back roads and driving in and out of the rain, the mysterious and moody sunset really capped things off. The damp earth and vegetation smell upon exiting the Jeep was overwhelming and wondrous, and we could feel the low clouds enveloping us in thick, moist air; an uncommon feeling in the desert. This first visit to Mojave National Preserve certainly did not disappoint and we can't wait go back!
