“Baby if I’m difficult to read
Just listen to the beat
Hope I’m worth the time
Know I got it made like a dream
Swear I’ll stay til
The sun turns grey
We’ll pick up that morning shine
Gotta make it thru this weather
Promise you we’ll be better
I can turn the light on
Everywhere you think is dark
Never gone lie, always got you on my mind.
For now I’ll stay waitin’
Slow dancin’ in my kitchen
With my strawberry shake
At 2am.” Loverboi. (2019) available in paperback and e-book options tomorrow! 🌺 Happy healing.
“We showered with the lights off tonight.
wish I could say your hands and the water felt nice
but the only thing my skin felt was
I only really notice I’m naked after a fight
so the lights, I kept them off
cuz we’d argued and we’d tossed
our souls around a room, and I
caught your words and recoiled, cocooned
myself back into hiding
See, Id just shown you a song I’d been writing
and I sang the thing, start to finish,
and for those three and a half minutes
I was Rose posing Naked for Jack
Hoping youd see something in me besides everything I lack
Hoping you’d see something in me worth painting, something in me worth framing so you could carry me around your neck in a lockit on your chest.
the way we carry things we never want to lose.”
- Lights On
The intro of my latest piece :) wrote this one on the ride down to Nashville then hours later performed it for the first time at a poetry open mic night with @pbnpnash . It’s a little rough but the full poem and live performance is in my profile link if you wanna check it out fam. Hope it speaks to you. Or if nothing else, I hope my willingness to share my art before I’ve perfected it helps you feel encouraged to share your own heart and art with the world.
I was in Lexington Monday night and participated at @commongroundslex Open Mic! Received a lot of love and folks jumped on my website immediately as soon as I gave it out(link in bio by the way). Super blessed by the love and support! Hopefully I'll have vids and pics up soon!!!!
Thank YOU to everyone that attended March for Sudan on March 23rd in Washington D.C. I was overwhelmed with the turnout and energy. ❤️We were protesting in solidarity with the Sudanese people. The team and I have been organizing this for months. Thank you to everyone that traveled from out of state to attend and those who supported in spirit. We had individuals who traveled from Canada, NY, and Connecticut to attend. I am SO inspired by all the performers, speakers, artists, organizers, and especially the protesters that I attend. The end for the Bashir regime is almost near. ✊🏽🇸🇩 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Gotta shake this melancholy feeling, Brain kinda reeling, I'm Lonely again!
Her heart I took for granted, she’s gone now & though I understand it, I’m lonely again!
I couldn’t give her what she needed but selfishly I needed her so that I wouldn’t be,
I knew I should have stopped before I started, now another’s broken hearted and,
I want to call her, say I love you, can I just come & hug you? but the words are not enough
It’s the actions that are absent, without them I am lacking & my involvement is way too tough. She will eventually be,
With all the baggage that I carry should have kept it strictly friendship
Until I could move beyond my past & give a true commitment.
But the physical was like heaven & I couldn’t do without it
My ego ignored the whispered risk & shunned all thoughts about it.
We shared so much time together, & of course feelings did grow
But not enough to make that difference, I left no choice but to go.
So she left, now she's gone & I'm guilty of adding to the list of yet another soul who is...
