My Record Year - Day 80: Here’s an LP in honor of how I feel about my 32nd wedding anniversary. Despite a run of 676 performances, Frank Loesser’s “The Most Happy Fella” remains overshadowed by his smash Broadway hits “Guys and Dolls” (1950) and “How to Succeed in Business...” (1961) that bookended the 1956-57 production. In fact, the song “Standing on the Corner” may be the only tune people remember from the score, and few would even know it came from the show. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “They Knew What They Wanted,” “Fella” tells the story of Tony Esposito, a middle-aged Italian man making a good living growing wine grapes in the Napa Valley in 1927. Tony has been corresponding for a few months with a young woman named Rosabella, and she agrees to become his “mail order” bride after he sends her a photo (in true Cyrano fashion) of his handsome young foreman. Drama ensues. The show, with more than 30 musical numbers (there was a 3-LP version of the soundtrack) has been described as “one of the most ambitiously operatic works ever written for the Broadway theater.” As a half-Italian Napa native, I’ve had a soft spot for this dated but heartfelt love story since I first discovered it, and “Standing on the Corner” (sung in the show by one of his farmhands (played by Shorty Long) as he stands on Napa’s Main Street admiring the feminine scenery) has been a favorite tune since I learned it for a Napa High School vocal group, although we never sang it while standing on Main Street. That would have been too ironic. But great stuff from the amazing and prolific Frank Loesser. #frankloesser#broadway#musicaltheatre#themosthappyfella#soundtrack#vinylcollection#vinyl#vinyloftheday#vinylrecords#vinyls#rarevinyl#nowplaying#vinyladdict#nowspinning#vinyljunkie#napa#musicaltheater#napavalley#napahigh#broadwaymusical#standingonthecorner#myrecords
“Having the courage to move on and start all over again after losing everything you had is what makes the difference and shows the true brilliance of a man’s soul, I created 450 soundtrack after losing my studio and my production tools and got deported to Egypt, I managed to deal with this situation and created this magical music that will last forever”

Sami , You are able to transcend genre and create music with real depth and purpose. An abundance of brain-stroking beauty. Pull the curtains, lie flat on your back, whack the headphones on and drift away to somewhere between east and west, up and down, day and night.
