As I told you guys last Saturday Menelik’s soccer school, Geração Benfica, played against Chã de Alecrim’s soccer school, “Clube Naval de Mindelo.” The final score was a tie at 5-5. However there is something else. His soccer school hours are usually from 8 am to 9:30 am. At 9:30 on Saturday the score was 4-3 with Benfica in the lead. The coach from the other team said that their school plays until 10 am so they had to play an extra 30 minutes. It doesn’t seem like much but in a Little League soccer game, where the score is so close 30 minutes might as well have been an eternity for us all. So technically we won but officially the score was 5-5. What was even better was the fact that Menelik scored a GOAL to help his team. Either way though, I could not be more proud of him. Also a special shoutout to our goalie. He is the boy in the first picture smiling and talking to the boy in the striped backpack. He did an AMAZING job defending the Benfica side throughout the entire game. I didn’t get to record Menelik’s goal but I have clips and pics from other parts of the game. Enjoy everyone and see you all next time! *
📣There are plenty of talented people in the world. As you already know, talent is not enough. Some of the athletes with the most potential never pan out. What separates the good from the great is determination and work ethic 💯
Kids' Football Fitness
Coaching, Conditioning and Nutrition
Simon Thadani, Steve Foley & Alison Byers (2008)
I went looking to find out a little bit more about soccer and found this little gem in a second hand bookstore which was written over 10 years ago by some coaches at the Ipswich Town Football Club who are a second tier football club in the English Premier League.
This book is great for both soccer and non soccer enthusiasts as it gives a great all round and informative summary of coaching, drills, nutrition and psychology for developing children playing soccer.
In Australia, according to the Australian Sports Commission as of December 2016 there were approximately 1.4m participants in soccer relative to other codes of football which only had 497,000.
Soccer continues to grow at the grassroots level with record numbers of children all ages signing up to their local clubs across the country.
Even if you don't follow or enjoy the game, this book makes you appreciate the well rounded physical and mental skill needed to excel and play the game well. But more importantly the essential ingredient for kids to really excel which is reiterated by the authors is to enjoy and relish the game and fall in love with the process of getting a little better everyday.
Kids get many benefits from playing sports. But before signing your kids up to play, consider each child's age, personality, and abilities to help make sure that being involved in sports is a good experience for everyone.
What Are the Benefits of Sports?
Sports are a fun way for kids to be active. They also help kids grow in other ways, such as: • learning new skills
• being part of a team
• learning to work with coaches
• learning the value of practice
• enjoying competition
When Should Kids Start Playing Sports?
Sports can be fun for all ages. For toddlers and kindergartners, sports should be less about competition and more about being active and having fun. So even if young kids score a goal for the other team by mistake or spend the whole game chasing butterflies, as long as they're enjoying it, that's OK.
Around age 6 or 7, most kids develop the physical skills and attention span that sports need. They'll still need time to understand the rules of the game. When signing your young child up for sports, choose a program that emphasizes: • learning in a fun, positive way
• safe practices and games
• good sportsmanship
Whatever your kids' interests, help them get 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Wishing you a very Happy Easter!! 🐰🌷🌸☀️
We’ve spent this day as a family watching our two oldest boys and their teams win the finals of the weekend soccer tournament that we’ve been at under beautiful skies in the gorgeous Okanagan area of British Columbia. ☀️ Then, tonight, Nonna made us Easter dinner as we arrived back home. Ahhh! Lucky us!
It has been a wonderful day surrounded by friends and family and though this Easter has been different than most I’ve had, I am feeling so very grateful.
Good food, family, great friends, and beautiful weather - this Spring is off to an awesome start! Happy Easter to you! ☺️
Curious...Did you coloured eggs for Easter this weekend? Yay or nay?! Is colouring eggs going out of popularity or is it still going strong? 🤷🏻♀️
