The secret’s out about me being a Sufjan fan. Okay, so it was never really a secret but I feel like Sufjan is getting a bad rap these days. He seems to rank right up there with hipsters. Don’t worry Sufjan, I’m still a fan. My favorite Christmas song he sings is Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming, listen to the lyrics and the instrumentation and tell me, how can you not love it? Maybe that’s why I like roses so much, they point to someone higher. They’re a symbol of a deeper reality hidden right in the open.
“Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming,
As men of old have sung.
It came, a flow’ret bright,
Amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.”
