  • In 2009 Jonathan Gold wrote a phenomenal piece in @laweekly highlighting pescado zarandeado and other Sinaloan shrimp and ceviche dishes both cooked and raw, titled: “Snook attack: La Chente”, all of which I instantly fell in love with. At that time Mariscos Chente on Centinela (now called Coni Seafood, their second location) was run by @checocheff (Sergio Penuelas) and easily became my favorite westside restaurant for many years to follow. He later jumped around to the Coni Seafood off Imperial Highway and other spots in Long Beach before realizing that doing business with family was a complete waste of his time. Through darkness comes light however and after a long hiatus I finally found him cooking the same incredible stuff in his Inglewood backyard, filled with great energy, superb vibes, fantastic food, and lovely personalities - a win win for all! None of the other locations have been nearly as good since his departure(s) and I will only visit him from now on. Crazy that It’s only been a few days and I’m already craving that crispy spicy green apple ceviche, sucking those succulent shrimp heads, and wrapping up flaky snooker flesh with soy braised onions into little tacos. Grilling pescado zarandeado isn’t easy and Serg has that magical flick of the wrist, something I haven’t found elsewhere in LA. #findtheflavor #feedthefiend #nogeotag #mojodeajo #aladiablo #snooker In 2009 Jonathan Gold wrote a phenomenal piece in @laweekly highlighting pescado zarandeado and other Sinaloan shrimp and ceviche dishes both cooked and raw, titled: “Snook attack: La Chente”, all of which I instantly fell in love with.
