  • #doodleoftheday: #Elephantsonparade... Again! 🐘
It’s the return of the return of the doodle! Today marks the three year anniversary of posting my first doodle on Instagram and I’m celebrating by recreating that first doodle!
I had it in my head that this would be a good showcase of how my drawings have improved over time but, to be honest, the original elephant is pretty badass! They’re different for sure, but not sure which I like better!
Like I’ve seen so many of my fellow instagram artists do, I’d like to extend an extremely heartfelt thanks to all of you for your feedback and support! I’ve been surprised and overjoyed to find out that even though IG is a virtual platform, the community here is as “real” as you can find anywhere.
The past three years for me surprisingly have also included a higher than average number of life-affecting events, most of them varying degrees of bad or negative, but I’ve been extremely grateful to have a community like this while experiencing them.
Though my doodles are not generally meant to be autobiographical, I am most sincerely grateful for having the ability to express my true self and true voice, which is not always an ability I feel I have in the “real” world.
Thank you all for the audience you have given me! I LOVE showing you these doodles and I hope you keep coming back for more!

  • Day 18 of #marchmeetthemaker is Mistakes or Lessons.

There are lots of different ways I could have gone with this prompt, but I decided it would be fun to show you this comparison of my first attempt at the Mad Hatter, and then how much better it looked when I painted over all that and tried again.
It always sucks to have to start over, and most of the time I don't want to do it, but sometimes you gotta just bite the bullet and try again.
That's why I like paint. It's very forgiving! I'm always going back over and fixing up things I don't like. I can't imagine working with paper and ink or some other medium where you can't fix things!
But my elementary school art teacher had a motto: "Mess it up, dress it up." And you have no idea how many times I have repeated that to myself.
Bonus picture of the time I finished a doll and then dropped it! Messing up the eyes is the WORST because they're so dark and they take several coats to paint over. Plus, the eyes tend to be more raised so I have to scrape off the paint with my fingernails first. It's a mess! Day 18 of #marchmeetthemaker is Mistakes or Lessons. • Today I am finishing up some wall and ceiling painting so I can hang our art back up. So my #mondaymorningartshare is this box of art.
Now - I KNOW that this isn’t the right way to pack art. I am aware of that. But, sometimes when you’re in the throws of “just get er done!” this is what happens. Hopefully they’ll be rehung tonight.
Art makes me happy. Original art has a life force. I feel it.
Trust me, everyone can afford original art. Do some research. Start small. Go to student shows. Buy drawings to begin. Make your own art. There is just something about original art, where you can feel the maker’s creative spirit, that is so wonderful.
