  • “It’s acceptable to have been broken, but it’s unacceptable to stay broken.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This has been stuck in my head since I heard it on Monday. After one of the girls shared her story with us for @builtbyloveorg, I started reflecting on the brokenness I’ve seen and felt in my own life and God’s goodness in spite of it all. Bad choices I’ve made, people that were careless with my heart, words I wish I could take back, broken promises, unmet expectations... the list goes on. There are so many reasons to believe I’m still that broken girl. But God. It has been an ongoing journey to truly believe that I am fully known and loved by God. He knows all my junk and loves me all the same. He renews. He restores. It’s who He is. It’s what He does.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are still times when shame and regret creep in and try to tell me that I’m unworthy of that kind of unconditional love, but I choose to believe truth even when I don’t feel it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To the girl that is reading this that feels broken or ashamed, I am sorry. I’m sorry for the guilt you feel when you look back on the decisions you’ve made that you can’t take back and I’m sorry for the wrongs that were done to you. Know this, God’s grace and love is bigger than all of the junk that has been done by you and to you, bigger than all of your guilt, and bigger than all of your shame. May we get better at owning our junk, giving it to Jesus, and fighting to not stay broken. “It’s acceptable to have been broken, but it’s unacceptable to stay broken.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This has been stuck in my head since I heard it on Monday. • #momlife helpers. I’ve found that the hours 3-6pm are often the hardest of the day. Some tips I’ve gotten from veteran moms are: have dinner done or mostly prepped by 2-3:00. Put the phone away or on do-not-disturb. Offer structure play ideas versus just letting them run wild & get bored and crazy. These have helped. What do the rest of y’all do to make it through til dad’s home to bring in reinforcements? #momlife helpers. I’ve found that the hours 3-6pm are often the hardest of the day. • @hopewriters #hopewriterslife #challenge #day3 #draft is the #word to share and you might be thinking I have all my drafts in these big, cute notebooks ~ & you would be wrong.
•
These big cute notebooks hold my information to all the many places that I have an embarrassing amount of unfinished articles, and drafts. There is also a loose pile of notes I have drafted when I felt I’d better write this down before I forget!
Sometimes my drafts become my finished product but most times regret it.
A well done work is one that is done well.
Beloved, I write many times on my phone, in @evernote , in real notebooks, on sticky notes or in google docs. This means my thoughts are everywhere. It takes a deep work of the Spirit to narrow down and precisely articulate a point I would like to encourage others with. I could easily have 3-4 drafts in different places on the same topic. (Depending on how busy my day is when the Lord is revealing His goodness to my mind and heart)
I have said this before that what I share with you is also a strong reminder for me. God calls us to be a remembering type of people. A people who do not forget what the Lord has done for us. A people who, as he commanded Moses to write ~ he has given us the example of the impact words have when they are written down well for His glory.
The other day I couldn’t find a notebook I had for a certain topic and I pulled out all my most recent written in notebooks to see which one I had written in and I remembered that I had been writing things down for many years. It started more seriously when I wanted to remember the many blessings we had seen given by Lord. We wanted to remember the many times the Lord provided what only He could have brought about.
I do believe those are drafts written quickly that may one day be shared with the world and maybe even in a book form, but for now these unfinished drafts strengthen my heart to know that I can go back and rewrite them when time or God allows.
I am embarrassed to confess that I probably have hundreds of drafts and ironically I could tell you right now which ones the Lord is calling me to go and dust the cobwebs off. To do the hard work to pray, work throu @hopewriters #hopewriterslife #challenge #day3 #draft is the #word to share and you might be thinking I have all my drafts in these big, cute notebooks ~ & you would be wrong. • These big cute notebooks hold my information to all the many places that I have an embarrassing amount of unfinished articles, and drafts. • What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to getting in the word?
One of the things we found in our walk (if you’re new, that’s us: @stephsterjovski & @nealjolly) was getting into the word (not just watching video sermons, christian books, apps, devotionals or showing up to church) - was intimidating at first. We weren’t raised going to church every Sunday (@nealjolly grew up in a totally different faith) and so for us, it took some discipline to read and understand it all. It’s proven to be the best marriage advice, a teacher in business ethics, our life compass, financial guidance, peace-filled, purposeful, love story that has brought so much healing in our lives. It has strengthened us, empowered us, revealed our identity and blessed us with peace. Each day we try to study more, and find a routine with having our quiet time. There are a million things that fight for our attention: work, busy schedules, people, leisure, entertainment, phones etc. - but what do you give your time to that fills you up the most? The word breathes life. It’s called the “living word” and it has power. How do you set aside time to get in the word? 👇
