I always say that my husband was the best Bait & Switch I’ve ever found, he’s my real life catfish. I thought he was one person when we met and after 2 years together, I learned that he wasn’t who I thought he was and my heart was broken. We have both gone through so much in the last (nearly) 5 years. Together, we have finally felt safe enough to heal the most broken part of ourselves, pain caused long before we met. We are on this recovery journey together & Honestly he’s even better than the guy I fell in love with 5 years ago. He is open and honest, he even gets mad at me and tells me when I’m wrong and for the first time in my life, I welcome that because it comes from a good place. •

A month ago, at our church, we learned about “oneness” in marriage, @scotttreadway said that “in order to achieve oneness in marriage, you must live for the pleasure of your spouse”. If we are both living to please each other, we won’t have to worry about getting our way or not getting enough. I realized that because he asks for so little but does so much that it was easy for me to think only of myself instead of considering my partner in all that I do. •

This is great marriage advice for a healthy marriage but not something that can be done if your relationship is unhealthy or dangerous. I know that because when I was with a narcissist and lived to please him, it only hurt me more because I was never going to get that in return and it came from a place of fear and desperation. •

So daily, I strive to find ways to make his life easier or to make him smile and he does the same for me, which has always seemed to come easy for him. I’ve been lucky enough to find a man who can be vulnerable with me, who is affectionate and loud about his love, who communicates his needs, who checks in, who prays with me, who gently nudges me on the right path when I begin to stray, who makes me a part of his decisions, who is faithful and honest. He’s everything I have ever wanted and he has worked hard to be the best he can be. I love you Travie J.
