It's time to announce the second feature on the EP, and this one, I'm really amped for... I've seen him perform at countless gigs, where every time the energy is electric, he's performed at possibly the biggest (but short-lived) festival that Oxford has seen, been backed heavily by the BBC, done too many collaborations to mention in a single post, and just basically kept the wheel turning for music around here. A real ambassador for the music, and definitely one of the front men for the scene around here.
Last year, he dropped his first studio album called Inside Out (link in the comments). I'd heard a couple of tracks from it, but the whole thing is, in my eyes, a bit of a masterpiece. It really felt like he's been starting to carve his own lane, really make the music he wants to create, and refusing to mould himself to generally accepted styles.
Just after dropping the album, he had his own album-launch party, a headline show at the @o2academyoxford . Once again, it was mad! That night after the gig, I bumped into him at one of our only night spots in Oxford, The Cellar, which has unfortunately had to close its doors for good.
I wasn't in the best state to remember anything from that night, but I do remember this. He'd asked me what I was working on and I had some beats from this EP loaded on my phone, so we went outside to check them out. There was one in particular that he seemed to take a shine to. A couple of months later, I'd settled on an concept for this tune, recorded a rough take of the first verse and hook and sent it over to him. In a matter of hours, he'd listened to it, written the verse, recorded it, and sent it back. It was so good and just gelled with the whole concept.
For me, this just demonstrates what a master of the craft he actually is. You can tell the hours he's put into this stuff, and it really shows. So, ultimate respect for the man called @rhymeskeemz . It's an absolute honour to have him on the EP, and I just can't wait to unleash it now.
EP launch is 3 May.
