Genre is familiar I should say, in the likes of The Fault in Our Stars and others. But what it makes it stood out is its being informative about CF (Cystic fibrosis) and how it will sadly affect the love story of Will (#ColeSprouse) & Stella (#HaleyLuRichardson). That's why they got that movie title.

I've not seen any of their projects prior FFA but I think both Cole and Haley were pretty convincing as CF patients and they got that chemistry for you to ship them.

One thing I've noticed though, kasi sila Will at Stella hindi sila 24/7 binabantayan ng anyone from their families while they're being treated sa hospital for like super tagal na. I can't help but compare sa Philippine setting whereby puyatan talaga ang magbabantay na family member or relative. I'm quite amazed na para lang silang nagbuboard dun sa ospital.

Anyway, this movie has quite a lot of memorable, funny, cute, sentimental and unexpected scenes which will make you fully-engaged in the film. Its final message will also hit you hard. More than a story about impossible romance, it's about love, hope and sacrifice.

  • #08 - At number 8 on my top 10 of last year's (UK) releases is Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Phantom Thread' starring the master Daniel Day-Lewis - a film which follows a monster of a character in the high-end fashion industry and his exploitative relationship with a young woman.

Now on paper it may not seem like the most interesting world or story, but when you apply this brilliant director and actor duo to the thing, it instantly becomes a fascinating and mesmerising descent into a world of poison and intrigue.

Indeed first of all the lavish costumes and sets reel you in spectacularly, and then the masterful work of the script and Day-Lewis' unique ability to add bite to the smallest of actions or sentences makes for an unflinchingly captivating character-study.

It's properly smart character and relationship building, and the brilliance of everything on display had me hooked from the first frame to the last, and it undoubtedly deserves a spot on my top 10 of last year as a result.

Have you seen Phantom Thread? What did you think of it if you have? Let me know below. #08 - At number 8 on my top 10 of last year's (UK) releases is Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Phantom Thread' starring the master Daniel Day-Lewis - a film which follows a monster of a character in the high-end fashion industry and his exploitative relationship with a young woman. Ok so I’ve been looking forward to this film since I saw the first trailer. I loved @getoutmovie and the thought of @jordanpeele making more films along the same vain instantly got me excited. I’m not a fan of horror/gore films. I don’t find them scary and just find them funny. Which is why thrillers are my cup of tea. I won’t lie... this film had me shook from the beginning. The cinematography was incredible ranging from wide landscapes but pinpointing out exactly what you should be looking at, all the way through so straight up close ups that have you gripped on every breath the actors take. That being said, I’d be incredibly surprised if @lupitanyongo doesn’t do the same thing for Us that @danielkaluuya did for Get Out and swim it in to various Best Picture noms and Best Actress (is it to early to be talking about Awards season?). Something else that makes this whole film so tense is the score. Audibly this makes the film a stunner just as much as the visuals do. .
I really can’t see much else to say about it really. All I keep thinking is it’s lucky I don’t have an identical twin because I’d probably end up taking that handsome little bastard down.

  • #2 Kesari
Emotion:

Akshay Kumar is one of the few people who I think has cracked a "minimum guarantee returns" model in Bollywood. While the Khan's started performing inconsistently at BO, Akshay managed to gain wisdom from his experience (28 years) and chose the less taken path i.e social issues (toilet, padman, jolly llb2,OMG) and untold history (airlift, gold, kesari). My first take on kesari after watching the trailer was that I will experience a rush of nationalism coupled with extraordinary action and drama or in other words "300" of the east with much reliability.
Analysis:

Kesari started on a good note and Akshay blends into the character of Havaldar, thanks to costume design team. The turban and round blade gives you a feeling of what weight (literally) each of these soldiers carry while standing at the border.

The director managed to show the struggle is both internal (British India) and external(Afghans) for Indian soldiers and they never actually were free.Parneeti is brought into the cinema to lighten up the mood a little multiple times but I felt this whole thread lacked connection. The film would be completely fine without Parneeti's thread.

21 sikhs and their relation with Havaldar was established in a real good manner. The actual story begins in the 2nd half when 21 sikhs take on 10000 afghans (USP).Akshay delivers a splendid performance during this episode and the creativity of the director is seen in how he ran certain micro plots between individuals within a war. Some images are so powerful and moving in this sequence, credit goes to 21 sikhs(artists). Having said all of these, somehow you are never really pulled into the movie due to breaks created by humour that doesn't work at places and badly placed soundtracks.

Finally, I would say Kesari is a good one time watch.

Half day Rating : 6.5/10
+ : Akshay(as expected), Production values, Dialouges and Cinematography
- : Parneeti(as expected), Humour at odd times, Background Music could have been better. .

  • #1 Spiderman into the spiderverse
Emotion:
Spiderman was one of the most enjoyable characters from marvel universe until 2007,This was when Spiderman 3 released. The comics, cartoons and the first two films made Spiderman sensational.Infact, when no one was giving a damn to superhero movies back in 2000s, Spiderman was the only movie which used to get a worldwide release(especially in India) and people received it with warmth across the globe.

Analysis:
It took Sony and Marvel 15 years to get back with a legit Spiderman movie.I somehow feel the number of re-starts Spiderman had in past 10 years might also be an inspiration which led to creation of Spider-verse and initial narration.Spiderman into the spider-verse is a brilliantly written script where every Spidey had their own backdrops and the antagonist has his own reasons to run world threatening experiments.

The character arc of main spiderman i.e Miles has reflected on different things of modern society like Inclusion(his mother being Spanish and him being black), parent pressure, education system etc. The usual uncle Ben story in every spiderman story is still existing but comes with a twist and surprisingly this twist works really well in developing Miles character. Coming to other Spider "men and women" in the movie, my personal favorite was the one from 1930s but I guess piggy would be the theatrically appreciated version. The mandatory love track in Spiderman movies has been carefully sidelined but the directors made sure to weave in that tension by bringing in the Spider woman.Music and Animation deserves a special mention. The songs were are so well done (I added them to my Spotify list immediately)I don't even remember when was the last time where I felt impact of songs in English movies (probably Creed)

Overall, It has been a fun watch with pretty good plot and puns.

That's all folks! (Am I legally allowed to say that?).
Half day Rating: 8/10.
+ : Music, Plot , Animation.
- : A better kingpin characterization.
