  • Day 17 of #peruadventure
After a wonderful shower and breakfast at the comfortable Casa Morey, we got a few minutes to enjoy the outside of it, watching the Itai river (that goes into the Amazon) and the little traffic between the few mangrove channels.

The resort (Irapay) was on the Momon river, at about 30 min ride with the boat. Since we got there early, we started our program with lunch (you would choose ahead of time your entree between a few options, I had the venison). In the afternoon, we visited the Yaguas tribe, who lived nearby. They were selling all sorts of hand made jewelry and toys to support themselves. Notice the monkey head necklace...we did not get that!🐒 After that, we paid a visit to the Serpentario, a so-called sanctuary of rescued animals and birds of the jungle (that have been domesticated and found on the black market). The hits were the sloths (awww, so cute!!!) And the anaconda (everyone keeps saying they are very friendly, not venomous, and tried it on).🐍 The water adventure concluded with a fishing excursion. I almost caught a red piranha, but it escaped as I was pulling it up. Kurt and our guide caught a different kind of fish as well (that we returned as they were small). There were a few piranhas in that spot, but they were very clever in eating the bait without getting caught in the hook). 🐠 We think we saw a pink dolphin, but I was not convinced. It was just one and deep in the Momon river (seemed less likely to me). If it was a pink dolphin, then we were lucky!

The cocktails are very fruity (local and fresh), so we took advantage usually at dinner. :) And I had a full fish for dinner (check out the teeth), but it wasn't a piranha. 🍹

Oh, the resort cut the electricity during the day and night, being available only for a few hours in the morning, lunch, and dinner. No AC in the room (a stand alone cottage by the pool) and no glass windows (it had nets). Water ran all the time in the bathroom though. So we forced us to get out and enjoy the activities we had included or stay by the pool.
