  • Aqua Diaries'de bu hafta: Beni kendine av arkadaşı yapan mürekkep balığı // This week in #aquadiaries Cuttlefish made me a buddy hunt buddy , Sepia officinalis in #aquadiaries youtube channel... // I encountered a cuttlefish around the days of the magazine article while I was diving. He was hunting on shallow seabed, sand bottom. Despite my size and powerful video lights, it didn't get annoyed or scared by my existence. Instead quickly analysed the situation and made use of my lights. By moving strangely, shifting colors and pattern on its body, hypnotized the fish and hunt them one by one. It simply made me a hunt buddy :) AQUADIARIES - Denizden Hikayeler - Stories of Marine Life

  • When we think about #corals we all have the image of big table corals, giant sea fans or massive coral heads, but corals are actually really small creatures. Every single individual is called a polyp and they look a bit like a little #flower, a cup-like body crowned with a ring of tentacles. And this is what this colony of #tubastrea looks like to me, a vase full of flowers!
Tubastreas are a really peculiar type of corals. They belong to the order Scleractinia, what we know as hard corals, so they do produce a limestone skeleton, but contrary to most hard corals, they don’t have the symbiotic algae #zooxanthella on their skin. They live exclusively on #plankton they catch with their tentacles and they don’t need sunlight to survive. That’s why we can find them on ledges and caves in the reef, like this colony I encountered at the entrance of a swim through close to #ambon bay in #indonesia. A beautiful centerpiece of flowers!
