THIS IS WHY YOU FEEL POWERLESS.⁣
⁣
Call it a #lovepunch(ht @iamruby) or tough love but I can’t not say it because… I love you and want you to live the biggest, richest, life humanly possible!⁣
The reason you feel powerless is because you CHOOSE to. ⁣
Let’s say you are in a relationship and are being treated very unfairly. Or you are in a meeting and people are talking over you. Or you are in a group of friends and you feel like you’re being picked on.⁣
In these moments, you have a choice.⁣
You can choose to speak up for yourself and ask for what you need, reach out to someone for support, or you can remain silent and take on the role of the powerless victim.⁣
If you remain silent and feel powerless as a result, that is the choice you have made.⁣
Trust me when I tell you that remaining silent is OK. It really is. ⁣
And being able to acknowledge that you made that choice begins to bring you back into your power, simply by admitting it was what you chose.⁣
We have all chosen to feel powerless at one time or another because it has served us in some way. ⁣
Here are a few examples of what I mean:⁣
1. Taking on the role of Victim means we may get sympathy from friends and loved ones, and let’s be honest, sometimes that feels pretty darn good. Right?⁣
2. Being a victim means we don’t have to take action to change anything and that feels like a safe choice because taking action is SCARY. “What will people think of me? Will I come across as needy or demanding?”⁣
If you’ve followed me for a minute you know I am a HUGE fan of taking radical responsibility for my life and that means having the tough conversations, putting myself out there and letting myself be seen and heard. I’m here to tell you that it’s uncomfortable as hell but then again, so is feeling powerless, isn’t it?⁣
Growth or Victimhood? The choice is yours.⁣
