Lakes are our #Lifelines and we need to protect and develop them holistically. Lakes and their shores, the flora and fauna not only provide us with a number of environmental benefits but they also influence our quality of life and strengthen our economy. Therefore under Smart City project Tolankere lake is one of the lakes which is being developed under it's #Green_Projects

Tolankere is a 39 acre lake which will impact more than 25,000 people living in 4 wards around it. It will also benefit the urban poor. Everyday between 500-1000 people visit this lake. 3 Islands for birds, green zones, open air gyms, open air theatre, STP, children's play zone, senior citizen area, walking path, boating etc. are being developed.

Smart City officials presented an overview of the Tolankere development project, followed by a visit to Tolanakere and Unkal Lake alongwith Senior Hydrologist Dr. Jadeja from Gujarat, who gave his expert comments for a more scientific and sustainable development plan for Tolanakere Lake . Over the next 2 days there were meetings with our MLA Mr. Arvind Bellad and members of Citizens Lead. Our MLA has assured us that the various aspects discussed will be considered. The suggestions with regards to Tolanakere Lake are as follows:
1. To enhance water holding capacity, depth of the lake to be increased
2. Build a box culvert near the inlet for desilting along with a mesh to arrest plastic and other materials from entering the lake
3. Plant various types of sturdy fruit bearing native trees
4. Enhance bank towards the outlet
5. Opening up of nala near the main gate and connecting it to a source for coordinated water drainage
6. Building a box culvert near the outlet with multi outlet access points for coordinated water flow from lake to drainage (this point is still under consideration). 7. Utilizing the outflow for recharging the groundwater table with recharging pits and borewell recharging projects around the area.
8. Developing the lake keeping the flora and fauna around it in mind.It attracts many migratory birds #tolankere_lake_development - #smart_city_hubballi_dharwad_project -------------------------------------------------------------------- Lakes are our #lifelines and we need to protect and develop them holistically.
