  • So pleased to feature the inimitable @valeriebjarrett in our April issue. As President Barack Obama's longest-serving senior adviser, she helped shape the past decade of U.S. history. But in her new memoir, out in April, it’s time for her own story. That does not include running for office (she’s done with that business) but focusing on gender equality, criminal-justice reform, civic engagement, and reducing gun violence. This lady is as brilliant as her Louboutin soles are red. #instylebadasswomen 📸@Jeremy_Liebman So pleased to feature the inimitable @valeriebjarrett in our April issue. • As President Barack Obama's longest-serving senior adviser, @ValerieBJarrett helped shape the past decade of U.S. history. In her new memoir, out in April, she opens up about her own story, including her future plans. That includes focusing on the issues that matter most to her, like gender equality, criminal-justice reform, civic engagement, and reducing gun violence. One thing NOT in her plans is running for public office, instead she’d “rather help the next group of people who want to run,” she tells @jenniferferrise in our April issue. She offers the same advice to everyone, especially young people, who approach her: “We have to find a candidate who’s going to lead our country in a way that’s inclusive and true to our values, which is why everybody has to vote. It’s up to all of us now.” Read more about her incredible history at the link in bio. #InStyleBadassWomen | Photographed by @Jeremy_Liebman As President Barack Obama's longest-serving senior adviser, @valeriebjarrett helped shape the past decade of U.S. history. I’m always so thrilled and inspired to see write up’s and continued recognition of those I came up under. E, you deserve every article, award, adulation of praise and the respect that you’ve worked so hard to attain. Beyond being a titan in the music industry, you continuously keep it cute effortlessly😊. @instylemagazine got it right with this one. That ATL ain’t nothing to play with baby and neither is the Detroit soul you’re pioneering for this generation. Cheers to you sis! 1 of 1 and still so much more to tackle, but I’m confident things aren’t done heating up anytime soon. And to top it off you are just as beautiful inside as you are outside and brilliantly bold. Proud to know my generation and the generation under me have a solid representation of black excellence minus the pretentiousness that can come from a lot of seemingly well to do black folk, who have “arrived”. You are just as humble and real as I remember walking up on you that night back in ‘07 at the BMI Christmas party. What a force you’ve become over these 10+ years. You are necessary to the conversation. Nothing but love and appreciation for you. Y’all help make this March issue the be the biggest seller of the year! #InStyleBadAssWomen S/o the lovely editor and chief @laurabrown99 + @spulia for highlighting and sharing #HERstory of our hometown hero and national treasure if you ask me THE DOPEST ETHIOPIAN @theethiopiandream

From “Self-Care Sunday” to “Motivation Monday” I talked to @instylemagazine about how really just doing you is all you can do, so do it with no apologies. To me, self care isn’t all face masks and bubble baths and eventually I had to really meet myself. 😉 Check below!

Comfort zones are overrated, if you ask model @CandiceHuffine. “At the end of 2015, my husband dared me to make running my New Year’s resolution. I was scared of it. I felt my body wasn’t a runner’s body. [I thought] I’m going to be slow," she says in our August #BadassWomenIssue. But when she crossed the finish line of the 2017 Boston Marathon, “I told myself that I will never say I can’t do something again. It was hard and scary and the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done." Today, she wants every woman to define wellness on her own terms. “I don’t think you have to run a marathon to have a connection with your body. Self-care is an exploration of yourself — whatever that looks like to you is perfect.” #InStyleBadassWomen Repost • @candicehuffine influencing in a better way #impactinfluencing ••• From “Self-Care Sunday” to “Motivation Monday” I talked to @instylemagazine about how really just doing you is all you can do, so do it with no apologies.
