Nov. 12, 2009: How MVP LeBron closed out quarters ft. Dwyane Wade's emasculation of Anderson Varejao. The ghost in Chicago sat courtside and watched a 1st quarter for the ages. Although both were in their 7th season, Wade was 28, LeBron was 25. Shaq was 37 and in his 18th season. Jordan was 46. This was two seasons before LeBron became the Paul McCartney to D-Wade's John Lennon in forming the Heatles, along with Chris Bosh (George Harrison). Who was Ringo? Chalmers? UD? Anyway, notice that Shaq had taken his talents to Cleveland, ostensibly to "win a ring for the King". Shaq spent the previous season ('08-'09) with the Suns as the Big Shaqtus after spending 4 seasons on the Heat with D-Wade. LeBron would be named MVP for the 2nd year in a row, his first of 4 MVP's (also won in '12 and '13). The Lakers would win their 2nd title in a row. By this point, LeBron and Wade had become great friends. The seeds for the Big 3 were likely sown during the Gold Medal run of the Redeem Team at the 2008 Olympics. This edit only includes 1st quarter highlights. That career highlight of a dunk by Wade over Varejao almost didn't happen. On the other end of the court, another O'Neal, Jermaine, made an outstanding block on LeBron as LBJ attempted what would have been a spectacular dunk in its own right. The ball went to Wade, who did indeed kill Anderson Varejao. Wade then embalmed Varejao's dead carcasse when he stepped over it à la Allen Iverson over Tyronn Lue (former Cavs coach) in the 2001 Finals. The quarter was won by the Cavs thanks to LeBron's buzzer beater. The Cavs would end up winning the game 111-104 and moved to 6-3, and the Heat to 6-2 with the loss.
