If nature is the doorway of God’s wild beauty, then adventure is crossing the threshold with intention. It’s not enough just to know it’s there or to merely bring pieces of it into my house; it must be entered into. This call of adventure is an invitation to experience sights, sounds, scents, and textures that draw us out of ourselves and into what’s happening beyond the sterile and controlled environments we have built around us.
I believe the pleasure of God is in the adventure—in the sound of fishing poles clacking while hiking down the trail, the picnic on the river, the casting and mending of the fly rod’s thick white line under a wide blue sky; in the waxing of the board, the salt crystals forming on hair and eyelashes after surfing—yet we don’t often recognize it. When we do, it’s like opening an elegantly wrapped gift in the presence of the giver: there is mutual anticipation, mutual delight. He saw what he had made and called it good, and he wants us to revel in the good he made.
But, too often, we merely spend our days checking off the to-do list. He gave us senses he wants to fill, yet we’ve allowed them to be dulled by screens, by busyness, by duty. Sometimes the last thing on our minds is enjoying creation, looking for adventure.
Maybe it’s because work is relentless; the hamster wheel spins too fast to step down without face planting. Maybe it’s because going off the beaten path takes a bit of effort, more than we think we can afford. Maybe it’s because encountering nature can be an unpredictable thing, a bit frightening, because we might find ourselves in a situation we can’t control. But I’m pretty sure that’s where God meets us, in the space where we set aside our agenda and learn to be openhanded with his will for the days of our lives. -Kate Merrick
During our Hawaii visit, we were bothered by hwy litters. As tourists/travelers, it is so important to help keep the land clean. Are you aware of #adoptahwy program? -
According to the program, " it is one of the most critical ways to keep our storm water run off free of pollutants and debris". It is a public service program that allows volunteers from any organization to pick up litter along state highways. ✅
The DOT could assist the volunteers with trash bags and safety materials.
Have you guys seen a Adopt-A-Hwy sign? This sign is to recognize your group’s cleaning. How awesome is that? 🙏 For more information on how to help your community, visit your local, city's Adopt-A-Hwy program.
Without volunteering, there are other may ways to contribute to the program.
Are you guys aware of the 3Rs?
They are: ✅ Reduce, reuse and recylce. --- The amount of landfills on hwy has gotten serious. Quoting from Hawaii's Adopt-A-Hwy program, the problem have been a constant battle. "you walk the highway picking up this and that, you start guessing at how it all got there -- plastic bags, beverage containers of all kinds, cups, pieces of cardboard boxes, big and small scraps of paper -- and pretty soon you've formulated some ideas about how people could help minimize the problem." .
. ➡️ To keep this beautiful place clean so that our next generation can have amazing time in Hawaii, it is very important that we are aware of this issue. Please don't litter and save the environment/community🙏.
What is your favorite beach to visit? Do you like it for the party vibes or the mountain view’s? Is it calm and remote or an adventure to get to?
I am making a list of my favorite beaches I’ve visited so far, but I need to check out a few more. Where should I go?
We’re half way into 2019, and yet I still wonder why I hold back on trying to create. I was never confident in my work because when I showed others my photos I don’t see the reaction I hope to see. I feel that others just see a picture, while I see something so much more than just a photo. I’m a people pleaser, and if I make others happy with my work, than that’s what makes me confident.
Although, that’s what stops me from creating. If I wanna put out work and create, than I need to stop thinking about what others have to say and focus on what I feel. I need to be confident in my work, and what I have to offer.
I just wanted to come on here and rant that whatever negatives you receive there is always gonna be a positive. It’s so easy for you to feel like your work isn’t good enough, but it means so much more than that.
If one person doesn’t appreciate your work, there’s gonna be ten others that WILL admire it. Also, remember that you won’t be great overnight. You will mess up, you will start over, and you will compare yourself with other creators. Don’t take that as, “they do better work than me” but take it to be inspired, motivated, and dedicated. Just know creating is so important for the soul, so create shit, mess up, try new techniques because at the end, its what you love and admire that means the most. When you’re finally confident in your work then the rest will follow....
Btw I took these portraits, and admired each one because of the raw emotion behind them. ✌🏼
