Wide Grip Pull-ups! 💪🏽 The wide grip pull-up is by far one of my favorite back exercises. This exercise will help develop your lats, which are often considered “wings,” 🦅. The wide grip pull-up exercise helps create a wider shaped back; as opposed to chin-ups, where you are mostly targeting the bicep & forearm muscle. For beginners I would absolutely recommend chin-ups in order to master your body weight. Once you master 10-15 (head over the bar) chin-ups, move onto to the wide grip pull-up! The wide grip pull-up will help you build an incredible back, while targeting your shoulders, biceps, upper back, & lats included. 🐥
I like to ease the tempo when I perform the pull-up so that I am not jerking my body throughout the movement. Slowing down the eccentric portion of the exercise will create more muscle damage and therefore encouraging more growth! The movement should all be done in one shot, breathing out at the top. Great exercise! I would definitely recommend pull-ups for days where you train back. However, it can also serve as a great warmup for almost any session.
♦️Beginners: Practice 4 sets of 10 chin-ups. If your gym has a pull-up bar that has an assistance pad, USE IT! Do not hesitate! it is all a learning experience & I have been through it too.
♦️Intermediate/Advanced: Shoot for 5-10 reps on the wide grip pull-up. Some times I can perform 10, other times I can only perform 5 depending on the amount of energy I have.
♦️Pull-ups will guarantee to improve strength in your upper body. Try them! 💪🏽
