  • The Curtains // Another one of my favorite shots from #michiganicefest2019 For this shot we got to The Curtains before sunrise. We wanted to climb this classic wall, however during ice fest it is the demo area, and due to its easy access, it becomes extremely crowded. I also wanted to shoot here during blue hour to help emphasize the beautiful blue ice formations. To help do this further, I bounced the light from one of my flashes off of the inside of the cave in front of the belayer, illuminating the details of inside of the walls. My second flash was shooting higher on the wall to illuminate the climber and some of the falling snow. It’s so much fun playing with the flashes on these shoots, it is incredible how the ice reacts to light, and how you can create images that are almost surreal and hyper realistic!
