The main reason restaurants give their guests complimentary bread is that it’s a sign of hospitality. When you welcome people into your home or establishment to “break bread”, you’re showing them that they’re welcome.
Petrus Restaurant welcomes it's guests with freshly baked bread every day, with no excuses.
The other night as couples do, my wife and I were discussing what she wanted for supper. Black Bread and water was her reply. I laughed, but in a Russia Black Bread is a strong symbol of wealth and well being in Russia. The most traditional Russian Black Breads are incredibly simple, using just rye flour, water, salt and a sourdough starter for leavening. There are many breads to choose from in local shops and no bread and water is not a meal as far as I am concerned ❤️❤️❤️ #foodtourspb#foodtour#foodtourism#russianfood#saintpetersburginenglish
Tea is another popular Russian Food tradition. And drinking it out of these tea glass holders. I had my first experience of Russian tea in the South on top of the highest mountain in “Europe” Mount Elbrus, it was a kind of herb tea with a very distinct and memorable taste. It is normal to refresh your tea from the from the steeped tea plunger to taste. I didn’t know that camomile is actually Russia’s national flower too. #foodtourspb#foodtour#foodtourism#saintpetersburginenglish
Buckwheat is another super popular porridge or starch to add to meals in Russia and Eastern Europe. This was the first time I’ve eaten Buckwheat and it’s okay, a distinct taste and but still on the cereal pile 😂. If you’re having tummy problems this sorts you out chop chop. Just another “weird” thing about Russian Food. #foodtourspb#saintpetersburginenglish#foodtour#foodtourism Usually eaten for breakfast with milk and honey or salted.
