  • I’ve been sooooo busy.
Please forgive the lateness of these #freeartfriday post, I’ve been dropping off artwork at galleries and clients all week and I leave for a conference in Seattle on Friday. As an extra thank you for your patience, my lateness, and just being your awesome selves I have two art drops for you go find before I drop some in Seattle.
I made these on an adventure with @gabecolors a few days ago when it was super nice out. Look for this free art magent located at the historic old zoo park within @griffithpark, built in 1914 and closed in 1960 for the new zoo built right down the road. This magnet can be found in the tiger enclosure before the bird cages, you’ll have to do a bit of exploring up some stairs, and look for it on your way back down. Watch your head!
The pictures (scroll) are your clues to the location.
If you find it- it’s yours (finder’s keepers).
Please take a pic & if you can tag me and share, so I can mark it found! I will post once when they have been found on the original post.
Check out my previous posts for the others available in my free street-art scavenger hunt.
Be sure to follow for more locations- I’m posting these all over LA in famous locations or when I travel.
Los Angeles- art scavenger hunt is ON!
Go and get it!
Art for the all!

  • I’m moderating a panel discussion tomorrow (Thursday) evening called ‘The State Of..Bay Area Cultural Institutions’ at @thebatterysf. I met with one of my panelists, Dena Beard last night to discuss the talk, and hear her thoughts on the state of her industry: from the programming of larger institutions like @sfmoma, to the one she runs as Executive Director of @thelabsf. She talked about the role that these arts entities play in the role of the city, her desire to transform what it means to run a non-profit, and how her background as an artist has shaped her view of the of role of art in our lives. I’ve been telling friends that this is the most ‘unsexy’ subject I’ve done in this series, but the truth is, I think it’s one of the most interesting. The convergence of culture, art, process and politics is the reason this salon series exists. San Francisco is in the midst of a giant transformation that is affecting how these cultural institutions operate, and are being run, and I think that is worthy of our time and attention. I hope you’ll join me and my panelists (Dena Beard of @thelabsf, Maria Jensen of @somarts, Larry Rinder of @bampfa and Rene DeGuzman of @oaklandmuseumca). The Battery is a private club, so email me at info@mccalman.co if you’d like to attend. #ObservedSF I’m moderating a panel discussion tomorrow (Thursday) evening called ‘The State Of..Bay Area Cultural Institutions’ at @thebatterysf.
