Recently visited Chennai for a short tripand went to Thalapakatti for dinner. The place is known for its Biriyani and Non Veg dishes. Ordered Mutton Sukka, Spicy Fried Prawns ,Nattu Kozhi Chops ,Mutton Thalapakatti Biriyani Makabari Paratha along with soft drinks and ended with Gulab jamun in Vanilla Ice Cream along with fruits. The Biriyani was nice and rest of the dishes were good too. When in Chennai do visit this place. Recommended. #dindigulthalappakatti#biriyanilove
Thalapakatty (head turban literally) is a famous brand name for biryani all over Tamil Nadu but was started by a venerable gent in Dindigul. His identity lay in his turban so, somewhat inevitably, his little shop cum kitchen was named Thalapakatty. Redolent with kalpasi (stone flower lichen) and other herby spices, they use a particular type of sheep called, in Tamil, micheri adda. Yesterday, I visited Shangri La where a food fest from Coastal India is going on. When Chef Prabhakaran from Chennai via Bangalore told me that he does a biryani with jeeraga samba rice that “tastes just like Thalapakatty biryani” I smiled politely while mentally dismissing him. How wrong I was! It is the closest thing to Thalapakatty biryani that I have had in Coimbatore and Madurai. My helping for two was made in ten minutes so do go and ask for it, even if there’s another biryani from Kerala/Andhra on that day’s menu. And if you see me there, wave! #shangrila#shangrilanewdelhi#thalapakattibriyani#dindigulthalappakatti#dindigul#dindigulbiryani#delicious#southindianfood#foodfestival
