DAY FOUR: Rider 113, Jasmine Skywater riding Rhapsody in Blue – #jscwestern1barrels
Well… So much for landing on good notes, huh. You can’t win them all! I had a feeling today wasn’t going to end well. Zeus was very on his toes this morning when I pulled him out of his stall to prepare for the barrel racing. During our warm-up he was very unbalanced, and I was struggling to hold him back, I had a serious lack of control. He had so much energy that even he couldn’t control. I should’ve backed out; I knew he wasn’t in the right frame of mind for today. But sigh, me being me and hoping for the best I went through with it anyway. I’m so sorry Zeus, I should’ve listened to your signs. We entered the arena at a fast gallop, and I had absolutely no control. This could’ve ended a lot worse than it did. Knocking the first barrel I tried pulling him back to disqualify ourselves, but I had absolutely no control of him and he fought with me against the bit and continued the course. I sat and held on for dear life and wished for the best. Acting as if I had full control which clearly, I did not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Pulling away from the second barrel Zeus lost his balance, tried saving himself and tripped, we crashed into the third barrel which resulted in Zeus falling and me flying over the side of him. Zeus grunted and launched himself up and galloped to the finish. I led still for a couple of minutes gathering my breath. Hugh ran and knelt beside me ‘Don’t speak, can you try and sit up. Keep breathing, in and out. You’re okay.’ I slowly regained my strength and sat up with Hugh’s support. After a few more minutes he helped me up. ‘Thank you, I’m okay. I think I’ve just winded myself, nothing serious’ I exited the arena and sat in medical for a while. Zeus is okay, his left knee is a little inflamed from how awkward he landed but he is okay, we’re both okay. I’m just very lucky I was able to roll away from Zeus otherwise he could’ve landed on me and this situation would’ve been a whole lot worse. Surprisingly Hugh has been taking care of Zeus and myself, quite the gentleman that Hugh. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
