  • The most important thing you can do today? Take action! Tell #Congress to vote “NO” on the harmful Trump-McConnell bill that would increase detentions & deportations of families. We don’t need deportations, we need an OPEN government.
Contact Congress NOW. Our voices must be heard: USA tu voz! It’s easy, just fill in your information and you can tweet or email Congress. (link in bio) The most important thing you can do today? • On Monday, Sen. @kamalaharris (D-Calif.) announced her candidacy for the 2020 presidential election. Forty-seven years ago this week, Rep. Shirley Chisholm (D-N.Y.) became the first woman and the first African American to run for a major political party’s presidential ticket. “I am not the candidate of black America, although I am black and proud,” Chisholm said in her announcement as supporters cheered. “I am not the candidate of the women’s movement of this country, although I am a woman, and I’m equally proud of that. I am not the candidate or any political bosses or fat cats or special interests. ... I am the candidate of the people of America.”

Not only was Harris’s announcement timed with the anniversary of Chisholm’s own, eagle-eyed political watchers noted Harris’s campaign logo has borrowed the same striking yellow-and-red color scheme as the former congresswoman. A Harris campaign spokesman told the Guardian the senator’s decision to honor Chisholm’s legacy was a “no-brainer.” (photo by AP / illustration by @thelilynews) On Monday, Sen. @kamalaharris (D-Calif.) announced her candidacy for the 2020 presidential election. • #Venezuela: The US today recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as acting president of Venezuela, in a clear rebuke to the illegitimate presidency of Nicholas Maduro, who took office this January following last year’s sham elections. Today marks an incredible day for Venezuelans who have regained a new sense of hope and while the transition marks the first step to a prosperous Venezuela, important questions about military support for Guaido still remain unanswered. Tap link in the bio to know why today’s transition is constitutional, and what happens next.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 29, has been shaking up the political scene since she was voted into her position in the #HouseofRepresentatives this past election season. She's proposed a 70% tax rate for certain bracket, proven her place as a proper a New Yorker and been a shining beacon for ideals many millennials share. And next on her agenda? It might just be to sashay down the runway as a guest judge on #RupaulsDragRace.
——
The representative has been a vocal fan of the show over social media, but she fan-girled on Instagram live when one of the queens from the most recent season, #Valentina @allaboutvalentina, started watching along, saying “Oh my God. I can’t believe she’s on my livestream right now. Oh my God. Amazing. Girl, tonight the lip sync, you turned it out. It was incredible. You make me so proud. You make me feel amazing about being Latina, about being America, about being todo." (WATCH VIDEO at GayeMagazine.com)
——
Cortez went on to say what fans of her and the show have been waiting to hear for months; “It would be a dream of mine to be a guest. Maybe we'll reach out. It's just so amazing, and I'm just so thankful that we have a community that can celebrate each other and just find joy in each other and beauty in each other and uplift each other … we’re talking about RuPaul’s Drag Race, if you haven’t watched it it’s one of the most amazing thing ever.” ...Read Full Article at GayeMagazine.com
