  • 4x5 @ 195lbs (4th set shown)
Everything about squats this morning felt sooooo good!
.
These are ugly, but they look light and ugly, not heavy and ugly 🤣
.
My belt, although still too small, wasn't painful today! I must not have much water retention right now because my eating really hasn't changed. I'm sure nobody cares, but I'm up to 2750 cals/day and gaining about 1/2lb week. Slow and steady!
.
I did the first two working sets of 5x5@195lbs (really 4x5 because for some reason I forgot the 5th set) with NO BELT!! Mostly because I didn't think it would still fit but 🤷‍♀️ thennnnn I put the belt on and the other two sets felt AAHHMAZING!!! So easy peasy.
.
I've been having a really hard time with squats since we got the home gym. I think maybe squatting around other people at the gym gave me more confidence? And then for some reason I was terrified of the iron 45s. It only got a little better when we got the bumpers, but the *want* to go downstairs and squat just isn't there like it used to be (when I get going I'm fine). For me, squatting takes an exhausting amount of mental energy.
I keep telling myself it's not always about motivation to continue, it's more about determination! I have goals and if I want to succeed I have to do the work regardless of whether or not the motivation is there.
.
About 5 weeks of heavy training left before a mild deload just in time for @pursuit.fit Pursuit Power meet, how did it get here so fast??!

  • In the quest to move heavy weights, mental strength is arguably just as, if not more, important than physical strength.

I had the pleasure of talking with @micah_marino at USPA Drug Tested Worlds, and he mirrored the same thought...(paraphrased) “Not to be arrogant, but when I step in the gym or on the platform, I am the m*****f***in man in my own head. I have no doubt in that any weight on the bar is going to move. When doubt creeps in, that’s when things unravel. When it’s show time, i have to flip a switch, and tap into my alter ego to do what I do best. That confidence and belief in your capabilities is what will allow you to unlock your fullest potential.” This conversation has really been speaking to me lately, and is a concept that I’ve really tried to push to my team as they prepare for their upcoming competitions. Starve all doubt, and feed your mind with the fuel it needs to be the m*****f***in man/woman that will dominate any weight placed in front of them on the platform! Train, gain, and conquer your mind to take your body to places you never thought were possible!

Thanks for the words of wisdom brother 🙏🏽 In the quest to move heavy weights, mental strength is arguably just as, if not more, important than physical strength. • Top set shown. 270x1x5. I just want say a huge thank you to @bonschro for the World Class programming over the last year. While my last set is a little shaky, overall all 5 sets were pretty smooth at an rpe 8. My 1RM a year ago was 265 and now I’m hitting 270 for multiple sets. 300 is coming for 2019.
