  • #MarchMeetTheMaker day 20's prompt: Design process
The thing about me is that I'm absolutely horrid at drawing/sketching/anything where i have to conjure up a 2D image using my hands. What I like about crafting, and especially with clay, is that for whatever reason I'm able to make an image of something because i guess i'm more comfortable doing it in 3d form and without a writing utensil. So that being said, a lot of what I make, and therefore i guess "design," is really just on a whim. And i do look at images before/during to get a reference on what something looks like because i have trouble visualizing it on my own (which probably contributes to my terrible drawing skills as i can do a decent job if i stare at a picture and try to copy it but coming up with my own drawings is a big yikes) so that's the bulk of my "design" process.
The only time i'll really sit out and "draw out" an idea is if it's something really big or it's something i thought of but won't craft right away so i need to write it out/draw it out so i can remember for later. And a lot of the "drawing" in the design is just replaced with words describing what i want to make (as you can tell by my captions, I'm better at using my words than images lol)
I'm trying to become better at visualizing and recently there was a challenge on crafty amino to make cartoon characters so i decided to make a whole bunch of these characters without looking at any reference image beforehand and just going off what i could remember and visualize!
So that's where this spongebob comes in! It definitely is not perfectly what he looks like from the cartoon but he's pretty close! And of course he's in my own style so of course he wouldn't 100% resemble the 2d cartoon perfectly, but hey, that's handmade crafts for you! 😊
❗This and many other charms are now available in my store!
