  • It’s so simple right?! The diet culture, “wellness” culture and #fitspo culture recycle trends, I remember 15 years ago when Atkins & low carb were apparently the best way to loose weight & be healthy, then it was the south beach diet, then the blood type diet, then high carb plant based diet, now the low carb is back again & rebranded as “the keto diet”. It is all utter bullshit! If any one of these “lifestyles” worked, don’t you think it would stay in vogue permanently & not be promptly superseded by the next fad? Whatever label you put on restrictive eating & excessive/rigid movement patterns, they all promote unsustainable & potentially dangerous behaviours. The underlying message in all these trends is that certain foods are BAD, that our bodies are THE THING to focus on, that we should not trust our body & that weight loss or a certain physique is the pinnacle of happiness rainbows sunshine & all things joy. Again, this is all BULLSHIT forced upon us by those who seek to make you feel bad about yourself & profit from that insecurity.

Diets in disguise are still diets!
Instead of following the fads, tell toxic diet and #fitspo culture to go jump. Your body is so smart, trust it. No food is bad. Movement should be individualised & joyful. Imagine all the mental energy you could save & all the extra room in your head you could fill with amazing things if you weren’t worrying about food & movement?! I honestly marvel at the amount of things I could have done during the time I was anorexic & so sickly preoccupied with weight loss. I think of the books I could have read, the people who I could have met, the adventures & trips I could have had, the friendships I could have fostered & the skills I could have learnt. It blows my mind & makes me so impassioned to implore you; DO NOT DABBLE IN THIS DETOX, DIET BULLSHIT! The only detox you need is that done naturally by your kidneys & liver. You deserve to live free of rigid, unhelpful, toxic rules & restrictions which have been falsely pushed as promoting wellness, when in reality all they promote is disordered eating & exercise behaviours, frustration, wasted money, desperation, confusion & misery!
