For more than two decades, Damien Jurado has sung folk songs brimming with prophetic imagination. Whether singing ballads about killers, wounded lovers, UFO cults, or yes, the phantoms of departed friends, he's populated his work with eerie foretelling, the sense that he's divining something just on the verge of happening. While he recorded the ten songs featured on In the Shape of a Storm months before the passing of his longtime collaborator and close friend Richard Swift, it's no coincidence that Swift's death looms over the album. "His absence is very much felt on this record," Jurado says. Limited color vinyl nearly gone!

The Hurting Kind is the brand-new album from 4-time GRAMMY winner John Paul White, formerly of Civil Wars. With The Hurting Kind, he draws on the lush, orchestrated music made in Nashville in the early 60s, writing about overwhelming love, unraveling relationships and the fading memory of a loved one. "I approached this album differently on the songwriting side before I ever got into the studio," says White. "I really wanted there to be a torch song quality to it, the classic timeless quality. To not be afraid of the big note, and not be afraid of the drama." Bonus 7” with the LP!

As menacing and unhinged as ever, the MFing pride of Staten Island, the mighty BUDOS BAND is back with their fifth full-length offering, V. Raw and absent of the modern technological trappings, the Budos pick up where they left off with 2014s Burnt Offering, and finds the group expanding on the brooding, fuzz-fueled riffs, whilst harkening back to the Ethiopian inspired rhythms and percussive proclivity that put Budos Band on the map. Limited smoke-color vinyl edition while it lasts!

At the corner of Living Legend Street And OG Avenue, you will find Lee Fields' house. He has been singing for 50 plus years and is undeniably, yet amazingly, at the top of his game. Those who have paid attention know that Lee is part of the class that is directly responsible for the revival of old school funk and soul. As long as the road has been, and heavy as the crown may be, he proves again that he's "still got it". Teaming up with producer Leon Michels, they have managed again to take a classic approach and update it. Traditional soul sensibilities are mixed with a hip-hop tinged, sample ready sound that is as much an homage to the old as to the new. Some of the songs sound like they could belong to any of the last 4 decades without it feeling like a throwback, while others are 60s soul through and through.

Shana Cleveland has been beguiling listeners for years in her role as the superlative frontwoman for elastic surf rockers La Luz. Now she is evolving her sound on a new solo outing, a serene album that flows like a warm current while simultaneously wresting open a portal to another dimension. Inspired in part by one of her musical idols, the Afro-futurist visionary Sun Ra, the record blends pastoral folk with cosmic concerns. UFO sightings, insect carcasses, and twilight dimensions are all grist for Cleveland's restless creativity, and they and other inspirations collide beautifully on these kaleidoscopic tracks- a spacebound transmission from America's weirdo frontier.
