The Marlins have a new No. 1 prospect in their farm system today with the addition of Sixto Sanchez from the Phillies in the J.T. Realmuto trade.
Sanchez is a potential ace—I don’t throw that label on many pitchers—but he does come with durability risk. He’s the No. 13 prospect on the BA Top 100. His fastball sits in the mid-90s, reaches 100 mph 🔥 and he’s an athletic strike thrower 🎯 with an easy delivery. The slider improved last year, so both that and his changeup flash plus.
He also threw just 46.2 IP last year due to an elbow injury, so there’s a medical red flag 🚩 here. If he shows he has the durability to handle a starter’s workload, I think he can be a front-end starter along the lines of Luis Severino.

I’m a huge fan of our No. 1 prospect in the #mets organization, 20-year-old shortstop Andres Giménez. Reached Double-A last year as a teenager with a sweet lefty swing, good hand-eye coordination, projects to stick at SS with good defense and high all-around baseball savvy. The No. 30 overall prospect on our Baseball America Top 100 and the No. 2 player signed out of Venezuela 🇻🇪 on the list.
